Travel hubs will take the region far

"The current economic climate has been challenging for airlines and we have read of many cancelled routes, driven by the likes of Easyjet pulling out of East Midlands and scaling back at Luton airport. In this context, the news that Jet2 are to add five new destinations from Newcastle International Airport is testament to the patient work done by the team there in targeting new airlines and destinations. From a regional tourism point of view, these five flights may not be that significant as they are all largely outbound routes, but from the point of view of consolidating Jet2's presence in the North East, it is remarkably good news. It's also good for local people in providing new choices for flying from your own doorstep. The airport also announced a new route to Bergen in Norway, which will be a major boost for business and the strong family ties between Norway and North East England."
