Air duty rise may lead to route cuts
"The Government's decision to increase air passenger duty (APD) in November could force airlines to abandon dozens of services, according to a leading insurance company. With airlines already cutting back, particularly on short-haul routes, Britons who rely on regional airports and those with second homes on the continent could suffer. A report by the travel insurance specialist InsureandGo shows that between August 2008 and August 2009 more than 1,000 weekly flights to and from British airports were scrapped in the face of falling passenger numbers and increasing costs."
