Iberia to sue for 2m over Ryanair tactics
"Ryanair is being sued for 2m by rival Iberia over a bungled publicity stunt in Spain, it was revealed yesterday. The Spanish company has accused the low-cost airline of cutthroat competition and denigrating its brand name during a promotional campaign last September. Ryanair bosses promised free flight vouchers to anyone who turned up at Barcelona's Plaza de Catalunya with placards criticising Iberia. Thousands arrived demanding free tickets and the crowd turned hostile when the 500 vouchers Ryanair had printed ran out. An angry mob surrounded Sinead Finn, Ryanair's head of sales and marketing for Europe, who had to be rushed inside a police station by armed officers for her own protection."
